I learned useful things from today's session. Tank you, especially to dear kyle❤
My son and his wife have become hoarders. They have 2 rooms with one third of the rooms full of clothes - the piles are getting bigger and I don't know how to help. I take clothes and bricabrac to a church that helps refugees and the homeless, and I have often asked my son and daughter in law to fill some garbage bags of unwanted clothes - they say yes but I have never received anything from them. Their house is full of toys, rubbish (empty boxes) papers. The kitchen benches are full of groceries, empty tins and boxes. My husband and I are in despair for them.
Yale brown what’s this
Nothing about hoarding is healthy.
🙌🤝Liam!
How can I join the group? Is it free for everyone?
Jesus man I just wont my healthcare back from Man go fight for nice places where we can get better.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Hi
Hi
On my father's maternal side, OCD was implicated in 2 suicides and 3 other mental hospitalizations. My gram was obsessed with cleaning. You could drink from her toilet. She controlled everything and everyone in the family. I have obsessions but without the outward compulsions (Pure 0). Constant mental rumination and the inability to stop working has ruined my life.
I have a OCD with not get germs, be a OCD person it’s hard, I just want to be able to be normal.
Thank you so very much! Very helpful and informative, helped me a lot! God bless you Mr. Ted and good luck!
Thank you for sharing your story And yes the isolation makes it so debilitating
My mom has been a hoarder from her teens as well as her sister. Not sure why he says they accumulate things in the middle of the room, it starts in the corners and along the walls, underneath tables and behind furniture then it overflows until it reaches the middle of the room, last time I was in my mom’s house it looked like an ant farm…. That was 20 years ago, she refuses help and says it’s none of our business…. I dread the day we have to clean that out
Thanks Chris for sharing your story❤
Such an interesting and informative chat. Is there a colleague, or psychiatric practice, you could recommend in NJ? My 20 year old has selective mutism, OCD, social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder and most recently depression. She has been considered medication resistant and we even did TMS earlier this year. I just feel we haven’t found a good psychiatrist to suggest/manage medications. She does have a psychologist that specializes in these disorders, specifically for teens/young adults. Thank you for any information.
For me, my rage episodes are very embarrassing, but in the moment nothing else matters. I will fight, scream, throw things, and slam as many doors as I possibly can. I'm sure it does look like a temper tantrum, but it doesn't feel like that, it feels like the most important battle of my life in the moment. I very much feel a loss of all control, which then triggers my anger to pure rage. I'm not proud of myself, but at the same time I feel HELPLESS to stop myself.. I can see myself going right over the edge, not thinking twice about it till I'm significantly calmed down. I've gone to bed angry, woke up still angry in the night and will continue to bitch very loud, to myself. Ughhhh, ocd isn't anything like what most ppl think it's like, it's a nightmare for me, as I'm sure it is for other ppl like me ❤
This is the only video on RUclips that helps on this topic. It’s sad because all the other videos help people on the opposite side. People who think they might be racist. What about the minorities who struggle with fears of racism and attacks and being leached and hung like their ancestors every single day? It’s so sad people never consider to help people like that.
You’re amazing Chris Keep up your rhetoric … You are awesome Right to the point Love Liz. But she goes overboard at times Keep it real
Thank you for having the courage to share this!

This is such an informative video. Things I’ve taken away from -ERP - sit with thought and worst scenarios get used to it - Self compassion - objectivity - innocent till proven guilty not the other way around - uncertainty blanket - real memories can merge with intrusive thoughts - drop the rumination (a compulsion) - allow yourself to live a life of joy regardless of what might happen - we don’t choose thoughts and feelings , they choose us - take the risk of living life and I won’t wait for a knock on the door, or someone to find out. And if they do I’ll apologise and move on
This is such an informative video. Things I’ve taken away from -ERP - sit with thought and worst scenarios get used to it - Self compassion - objectivity - innocent till proven guilty not the other way around - uncertainty blanket - real memories can merge with intrusive thoughts - drop the rumination (a compulsion) - allow yourself to live a life of joy regardless of what might happen - look for healthy non ocd noise within ocd thoughts - 99% is not 100%. ‘It’s going to happen!!’ would be improved being less absolute - ‘I’m scared it’s happened’
What are other people doing - do they just move on? ‘Ah there’s not enough evidence for that *see u later intrusive thought / real event memory*. Am I willing to allow the uncertainty to be a cloud , practise it which helps move on?
Understanding OCD is like opening a very obvious spam message and engaging with it, so the computer allows more in and so we respond more. Find a way to change the algorithm . Guilt and precious real life experience can fuel false memory
Most time, our suggestions or concerns don’t really change anything on the IEP.
Excellent video. Impressed with Dr. Frost.
Oh no, sorry I missed this live video!
I don't think hoarders are innocent either. I think most of them are disgusting, selfish people. They also expect other people to give up personal space for their trash.
My mother 92 hoarded a lot of money, thanks to that my house is paid for she worked in a industrial laundry mat
Good to see you, Ethan!
Mark Ruffalo wishes he was this articulate
Hoarding is all about FEAR. I learned this....sense l have been clearing all unneccessarys. Clear, fresh, l can breath in my home now. Also l can clean my whole house in one morning. Works in peace for me.
I understand the rationale behind telling the family member not to clean up, but what about safety and health issues? My husband has hoarded our basement to the point where it is an extreme fire hazard, as well as a health hazard, due to rodents, insects and all manner of toxic, flammable chemicals. Our marriage has been destroyed already. Now I just pray that we don’t literally go up in flames. I think that family members don’t get nearly the consideration we deserve with this issue. Yes, the hoarder is ill, but they also take others down with them.
My heart goes out to you. Thank you so much for sharing.
Shouldn’t have watched this, it gave me more thought to worry about or new perspective thinking 😭
Waoooooooooooooooo
So thankful for someone sharing about this!! Ive wanted someone to for so long!! For me it was a different theme, but same thing- worst case scenario. OCD tried to tell me I could/should have seen it coming. But there was nothing i could have said/done. It wasn’t mine to control and still isnt. I agree- so thankful for ERP!! I wish you all the best 🫶🫶🫶
My OCD worst case-getting Covid/Long Covid and being incapacitated for the rest of my life.
proud of you - thanks for sharing this. You're very brave - keep pushing!
Really? They’re like the rest of us but exaggerated? They’re creative with the objects they keep. The JUNK they keep?! My mother, uncle, sister (dead now, and brother are all hoarders. They are certainly NOT like us simply exaggerated by any means. There’s absolutely no creativity or rhyme nor reason to the trash they save. They are mentally ill and filthy. They come with a myriad of other emotional problems and personality disorders. They are toxic and will destroy your life if you try to help them. This video is the biggest bunch of BS I’ve ever heard.
And what do we do when we live in the same living space, and we can't leave and have our shared living space improve? What if you're just done LIVING amongst the hoarded stuff that takes up ALL THE SPACE.
Everyone worries terribly about those of us who like to keep a lot of stuff. As long as it's not a health risk or actually hurting someone (not just them being "offended" by clutter) why do they care so much? Let's analyze the deep-seated trauma that causes obsessive tidiness, the need to get rid of things. Were you abused as a child, causing you to need to control your (and others') surroundings? Is that causing your obsessive cleanliness? When I die, none of my stuff will matter anymore, professionals can sort and sell the lot. Until then, I'm keeping the things that remind me of beloved people, places, events and yes, possibilities.
My friend hoarded paper. Bills, work stuff, documents etc. The whole house, and apartment and two storage units. She died and now we are throwing it all out. Nothing was important.
